mymind vs innernet

mymind gives you back what you put in. innernet gives back what was made of it.

the short version

mymind gives you back what you put in. innernet gives back what was made of it.

Of everything on this list, mymind is the one we admire most. "Remember everything. Organize nothing." No social features, no metrics, no ads, no sharing — a private place, defended on principle. If you want a beautiful, quiet library for the things you find, buy it and stop reading.

But a library has two properties that matter here: you have to go to it, and what comes out is what went in. innernet is built for the case where neither is acceptable.

what mymind is building

"The extension for your mind." You save notes, images, quotes, highlights, bookmarks and articles, and AI tags and categorises them automatically so you never file anything. Associative search by keyword, colour, brand or date. Bidirectional links, a distraction-free reader, a Serendipity feature that resurfaces things you'd forgotten, and Top of Mind for what matters now. iOS, Android, macOS and browser extensions.

The manifesto is the product: private by design, no feeds, no vanity metrics, nothing sold. It's a genuinely principled piece of software and the category is better for it existing.

what innernet is building

A personal memory layer that the AI tools you already use read from. npx innernet connects Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, Windsurf, Gemini CLI, Claude Desktop, VS Code, Cline, Zed and Continue to one memory, with an MCP endpoint for the rest. netti — one per person — files what accumulates into Context Maps: dimensions that read like living documents, nodes for recurring people and decisions, commits and branches. Every fact carries how far it may travel.

Nobody has to open innernet for it to work. That's the design goal.

where they diverge
1. saving vs. concluding

mymind's AI does an organising job — it tags, categorises and surfaces, so that what you saved is findable without effort. That's a real and hard problem, solved well. innernet's netti does an editorial job: it reads across what accumulates and writes something that wasn't in any single item — a decision and its reasoning, a position that's shifted, a person who keeps recurring. Organising returns your inputs sorted. Concluding returns a view.

2. a place you visit vs. a layer that travels

mymind is a destination, and a lovely one. But nothing your AI tools do can reach it — your memory in mymind doesn't make Claude Code understand your project. innernet has no destination worth visiting; it exists to be read by whatever you're working in. This is not a criticism of mymind, it's a statement of what each one is for.

3. things you found vs. things you decided

mymind's material is what you collect from the world: articles, images, quotes, inspiration. innernet's is what comes out of you: reasoning, decisions, the shape of how you work. A record of what you liked is a very different object from a record of what you concluded, and only one of them helps an AI act on your behalf.

where mymind is genuinely better
  • ·Taste. It's the best-designed thing in this category and it isn't close. Design is a feature when the subject is your own mind.
  • ·Visual memory. Images, colours, brands, screenshots — we're text-shaped and this is a real gap.
  • ·Capture ergonomics. Save from anywhere, on any device, in one gesture.
  • ·Serendipity. Deliberately resurfacing forgotten things is a genuinely good idea we don't have.
  • ·A principled refusal to be social. They said no to the features that would have grown them faster. That's rare and it's worth paying for.
where innernet is stronger
  • ·It's read by the tools you're already in. No visit required for the memory to do its job.
  • ·Something forms a view. netti writes and updates conclusions across everything, rather than making your saved items findable.
  • ·Reasoning and change are first-class. Versioned positions, branches you can park and merge — memory that holds not just what you think but what you used to.
  • ·Disclosure per fact. Private, self, trusted, work, public — enforced when any connected tool reads.
which one you want

Use mymind if you want a private, beautiful place for the things you find, and you want to be able to get them back later without ever filing anything.

Use innernet if you want the AI tools you work in to understand your projects, your decisions and your reasoning, without you going anywhere to make that happen.

Both, honestly. They barely touch. One is where your inspiration lives; the other is what your tools read.

the question we actually get
"mymind already remembers everything and it's private. Why add another memory?"

Because "remembers everything" and "understands anything" are different achievements, and because mymind's memory can't be read by the AI you're actually working in. When you open Cursor tomorrow, mymind has no way to tell it why you rejected the architecture you rejected in June. That's not a flaw in mymind — it was never trying to. It's just a different job.

this is what innernet remembers. you can keep your own.

innernet is memory your ai tools read live — projects, decisions, the things you’d otherwise re-explain every session. we write these letters out of ours.
